12 Topics

Topic 2 - Body Buddies

In this topic we explore our bodies, including how our bodies make poo! It's always a big hit :)

We'll be naming body parts, listening to our hearts, watching a digestion demo and even getting creative with skeleton collages.

Topic 3 - Boat Builders

This class recaps on floating and sinking while introducing basic concepts of buoyancy, upthrust and water resistance. We make our own boats from different materials and test them out in a scientific way.

Topic 4 - Coding Playmates

In this topic we explore the basics of coding for the early years. If you've done the Coding Unplugged class before, this is a new set of activities to build on the same skills.

We explore robots and learn skills needed for coding: logic, sequencing and problem solving.

Topic 5 - How much Space?

In this class we explore and compare volume with solids and liquids and investigate water displacement.

This is the maths class focus for the summer term and uses the water area as well as other activities you can do outdoors.

Topic 6 - Rainbow Hunters

This class explores rainbows and how they're made. We hunt out our own rainbows in several ways both inside and outside and think about the colours in the rainbow.

It's a great class to do when the sun is shining and you can create your own rainbows.

Topic 7 - Under the Sea

This topic explores the sea using a few different scientific topics.

We learn about saltwater, find out what stops sharks sinking and go on a fishing trip with magnets. There are plenty of suggestions for how to turn the activities into fun games after the class has finished.

Topic 8 - Pulley Me Up

This topic explores pulleys and why they are useful. We make a few different pulleys to investigate.

This is a pure engineering class and pulleys could be set up indoors or outdoors to use across the rest of term.

Topic 9 -Summer STEAM

In this class we explore some fun outdoor projects you can try on a sunny day. We learn about water density with water balloons, make a mess with a bottle rocket and use the sun to melt snacks.

These activities are all best done outdoors in the sunshine so if you'd prefer a different topic just get in touch.

Topic 10 - Flying Fun

In this class we explore flying and how weight and shape affect how well something flies.

We make our own flying planes and construct planes from different materials to use the right words for plane parts. And you can finish the term by going outside to fly your paper planes!
