This workshop is perfect for your KS2 pupils to learn about engineering, the impact of engineering and to take part in hands-on engineering activities.
The workshop focuses on structures and in particular towers. Pupils learn about how engineers have had to problem solve to adapt to a growing population and the advancement in buildings over time.
"The children were completely engaged in the workshop and had the best time creating their inventions in small groups with the resources provided to them. A few children commented on the day using words such as 'inspiring' which was really great to hear."
Children take part in two short challenges to apply engineering principles from real towers and then they work on an extended challenge to incorporate what they've learnt and the addition of a simple machine to their tower.
They'll be problem solving, collaborating and thinking creatively as they learn engineering concepts and skills linked to the Design & Technology National Curriculum.
The workshop will take around 60-90 minutes in total.
Included is a version for Upper KS2 and a version for Lower KS2 with the former having added complexity to the final challenge.
